Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic was a live event for the ages. It felt like we were witnessing
a video game boss battle in real life, surrounded by millions of blood-thirsty, fight-craving fans
all watching for the same reason: to see if anyone can actually beat Jon Jones. For real, this guy
is straight out of a video game. There’s never been an athlete in MMA—or any sport—that’s
done what Jon has. He's the gold standard, the main character in his own Street Fighter, a
machine built to be the very best. You could even say he was put on this planet just to do what he
does—there’s no other way to explain it.
And honestly, it makes you think. How would Jon Jones match up against warriors from ancient
history, the ones we only hear about in old songs and legends? If those warriors had today’s
training, science, and knowledge, could they hang with someone like Jones or any UFC champ?
Sometimes, these are the conversations I like to sit back and have with my friends because
diving into the “what ifs” and the “how would it work” keeps you thinking like a martial artist. I
bet Jon himself finds time to think about these questions, figuring out who he is as a fighter,
which is part of why he’s at the top of the game.
So, what’s next? Jon said he’s not retiring, so now everyone’s wondering, “Where do we go
from here?” A lot of fans are calling for a showdown between Jon and Tom Aspinall, the 31-
year-old monster from the UK, who’s been taking out everyone in sight at 6’5”, 251 pounds.
And sure, for the casuals, that fight sounds like a good time. But if you’ve been paying attention,
there’s another, way bigger matchup: Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira.

Why Jon Jones vs. Alex Pereira is THE Fight
Here’s why this fight needs to happen. Jon looked faster, stronger, and more comfortable than
ever against Stipe. He was picking shots with insane precision, dropping bombs, and absolutely
dominating on the feet, much like Alex does in his own fights. If Pereira takes out Jones, he
won't just be "one of the greatest"—he will officially be the greatest, bar none. Becoming the
first-ever Triple Champ would set him above everyone, even surpassing Jon. No one else has
taken three weight classes, and with that win, he’d have earned respect that sticks no matter
what. Even if he later fought and lost to Aspinall, it wouldn’t matter—because Tom’s built like a
mini-giant. For someone of Tom’s size, beating Jones wouldn’t mean as much; it’s almost like
he wins by default. That’s why Tom has to wait. It’s not that he’s better; Jon himself said as
much.

How the Fight Could Play Out
Alex has that insane lead hook and powerful cross that can KO anyone if he finds his range,
timing, and distance. But Jon’s wrestling is next level. We saw how he manhandled Cyril Gane
and Stipe; he was barely even trying. Wrestling is the game-changer, and that’s where Alex will
be tested. Sure, Alex has been training with Glover and some solid guys down in Brazil, but they
lean heavily on BJJ. And honestly, while BJJ is great, it’s not the only answer here. Pereira needs
solid wrestling—sprawls, clinch work, and the kind of takedown defense that comes from
American-style wrestling. He’s got to be ready to get back up and keep the fight where he can
drop bombs.
But if Alex can keep it standing, stay on his feet, and work his range, there’s a real chance he
could catch Jon with that lead hook he’s made famous. And if he does, he’ll have done what no
one else could—taken out the sport’s biggest name, becoming a living legend himself.

What About Tom Aspinall?
Now, don’t get me wrong—Tom is a beast, and he’ll get his shot. But as Jon said, Tom still has a
little more to prove. Beating Jon doesn’t automatically place him on Jon’s level, given the
history and respect Jon’s built over the years. And if Jon does eventually lose to Tom, it won’t
change a thing in terms of his legacy. Tom is a giant in his own right, and while he’s good, he’s
not what makes sense right now.
Let Jon and Alex go head-to-head. If Jon wins, then we look forward to him and Tom. This way,
the fights play out in a way that actually builds the story, rather than rushing it. Tom can take his
time, hang back, enjoy a little break, and wait for his moment.

Final Thoughts
Jon Jones’s journey isn’t over yet, and the potential matchups ahead are as exciting as they are
historic. There’s a lot to think about, and everyone has their opinion. So what do you think?
Should Alex get the next shot at greatness, or is Tom the next in line? Drop your thoughts; I’d
love to hear from you. Let’s keep the conversation going—see you on the mats!
