Training at the UFC Performance Institute

Training at the UFC Performance Institute was one of those experiences that really reminds you what level this game can go to.

I had the opportunity to be out there with my team while coaching Matt Schnell, and from the moment we stepped in, you could feel it. This is not a regular gym. This is where the best in the world are built, refined, and pushed to their absolute limits.

The facility itself is unreal. Every detail is dialed in. Strength and conditioning, recovery, nutrition, performance testing, skill development, everything is under one roof and built around one mission: make elite athletes even more dangerous. You walk through those doors and you immediately understand there are no shortcuts here. Everything is measured, tracked, and optimized.

Working with Matt in that environment was different. The focus is higher. The pace is sharper. Every round matters more. When you are in a place like that, there is no room to coast. You either rise to the level or you get exposed. And that is exactly what makes it special.

What stood out to me the most was the standard. Not just the equipment or the resources, but the expectation. Every rep has intent. Every session has purpose. Even recovery is treated like part of the fight game. It forces you to be present as a coach in a different way. You cannot just go through the motions. You are constantly adjusting, refining, and thinking one step ahead because everyone around you is doing the same.

Being in that room also gives you a deeper respect for what the UFC has built behind the scenes. People see fight night, they see the lights, the walkouts, the cages. But the real separation happens in places like this. The Performance Institute is where careers are extended, weaknesses are exposed, and champions are quietly built before the world ever sees them.

For me, being there with my team and having the chance to coach Matt in that environment was a reminder of what high performance actually looks like. You start noticing things you normally miss. Small technical details. Recovery timing. Energy management between sessions. The way elite athletes carry themselves even when no one is watching. All of it matters.

It was also just a great experience on a personal level. Being surrounded by that level of athletes and staff elevates you without anyone saying a word. You naturally step your own game up. You think clearer. You coach sharper. You pay attention differently.

At the end of the day, it is easy to look at a place like the UFC Performance Institute and think it is just state of the art equipment. But it is not about that. It is about the standard. And once you are inside that standard, you do not leave the same.

That trip was not just about preparing for a fight. It was about exposure to the highest level of the sport, and bringing that knowledge back with us.
